Provocative design, it gets the people going.  Jean Paul Gaultier has consistently challenged and destabilised social and cultural themes through his garments and shows. Striking social and cultural references are implemented not only through his impeccable graphics in a style like no other but also through materials and construction strategies.  He has been purely revolutionary with driving to change perceptions of a multitude of ideas whether that's in relation to religion or even gender, in a time where doing such would have been heavily controversial. This resistance to continue with his own ideology regardless helped pave the way for designers today.  The rebellious attitude may be the reason for his extravagant success in the industry with no prior formalised training.
