Griffin X Berghaus A/W 2008 Electric Mix Goretex Elysian Jacket (M~L)

Absolute slapper - a collab that was too ahead of its time.

Here's little extract from the griffin blog:

“For this Autumn Winter 2008 Griffin wanted to create the opposite to the mass Global image of sportswear and create something which is really exclusive. With this in mind we discovered Berghaus is the largest customer of Gore-Tex® in Europe and had a fantastic archive of expensive unused Gore-Tex® to experiment with. Rummaging through the extensive archive of Gore-Tex® material we returned to the Griffin studio and began pinning, stitching and taping together the unused material. A mocked up sample was then sent to the Berghaus lab in Sunderland. Below is the end result in two colour ways, Electric Mix and Grey. These jackets are a great mix of hand made, high technology and design including the use of recycled materials, which makes sense, as both Griffin and Berghaus share a strong point of view on the environmental issues that surround both the fashion industry and society at present.

If a brand was to do a similar kind of approach to design the whole collab would have been eaten up on the current IG atmosphere and these brands social credit would have gained a few extra points by responding to the trendy environmental issue but the people over at Griffin did this in 2008 so take that as you will.

Context aside, just a banger of a jacket. An interesting detail I’ve never seen on a gore-tex shell like this is an insulated inbuilt collar. Also the hood peak is wire framed which allows you to alter the silhouette of the hood to your desire. The honeycomb panelling on the inner face of the hood and interior compartments is incredible.

Retailed at around 82000 yen ( approx £535)

Good general condition the taped seams are still intact , just a  few light marks and some delamination on the back and the side of the body.
